The Friends of Dodge County Parks, Inc. recently received 2 more hole sponsorships for the new disc golf course at Harnischfeger County Park near Ashippun in Southeast Dodge County. Harry Thompson, of Pepsi Americas of Beaver Dam and Al Schwab, Sr. Vice President of Horicon Bank each presented $500 checks to the Friends of Dodge County Parks, Inc. The 9 hole course was installed this fall and is now open for play year round. Funds received from the sponsorships have been used to fund the course design and the purchase and installation of professional baskets, block tee pads and signs. Two holes remain available for sponsorships. An information board and benches are planned when the additional sponsorships are received.
The course was designed to provide a challenging and fun opportunity for groups and individuals of all ages and abilities. Players are led through a series of wooded and open areas as they work their way through the course. Disc golf is much like regular golf, except that instead of using clubs to hit a ball into a hole, the player throws a disc or Frisbee into a basket. The object is the same as golf - try to get to the hole/basket in the least amount of shots. Children and adults of all skill levels will enjoy this great excuse to be out of the house getting fresh air and exercise, even in winter. A disc golf tournament is being planned as part of the annual Harnischfeger Park Winterfest event on Saturday, February 11th.
